Home And Community Based Services

Medicaid LTSS Service Options

If you, a family member, or friend needs long-term services and supports (LTSS), you may be able to get the care you need at home or in a community-based setting. The Medicaid LTSS options you may want to consider include:

Adult Day Services offer care and companionship during daytime hours.  You return home at the end of the day.  Special programs are available for people with dementia. Services include: meals, recreational activities, personal care and help with medications. For more information, contact: the POINT at (401)462-4444 or check LeadingAgeRI's Adult Day Services page.

Assisted Living is a residential option and provides meals, recreational activities, personal care, help with medications, homemaker services and 24 hour support and supervision. There's limited skilled nursing. Some residences take care of people with special dementia needs. The residence must participate with the Medicaid program. Mostly double rooms with a limited number of single rooms available in a few assisted living residences. For more information, contact: the POINT at (401) 462-4444 or the RI Assisted Living Association at (401) 435-8888, or LeadingAge RI at (401) 490-7612.

Independent Provider (self-directed care) is an option for people living in their homes who meet the clinical and/or functional criteria for Medicaid LTSS but might need fewer services. People in IP receive homemaker and personal care services. The IP program allows consumers to select their specially trained personal care aides (PCAs), control their service schedules, and receive case management and assistance with PCA coordination. For more information about how to get help with your personal care needs, contact the Service Advisory Agency (SA): Seven Hills Rhode Island at (401) 229-9700.
