    Medicaid LTSS Service Options

    If you, a family member, or friend needs long-term services and supports (LTSS), you may be able to get the care you need at home or in a community-based setting.  Below are the Medicaid LTSS options you may want to consider. 

    To find out if you (or a relative or friend) is eligible to receive long-term services and supports (LTSS) from Medicaid, or to learn how to become eligible, click here. You can also get help by clicking on our MyOptionsRI website.

    Adult Day Services are community-based services provided by state-licensed adult day centers that are approved to provide services to Medicaid-eligible residents who have been approved through the Rhode Island Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) or the Rhode Island Office of Healthy Aging (OHA). Adult day services are also available for persons who are not eligible for Medicaid or OHA public programs and are able to pay for services with their own income and resources or with assistance from another payer. For more information, click on our Adult Day Services fact sheet or call the POINT at (401) 462-4444. 

    Assisted Living: The Rhode Island Medicaid program covers assisted living services in State-licensed Assisted Living Residences (ALRs) that are certified to participate in the long-term services and support (LTSS) program. Covered services include on-site, 24-hour personal care assistance, homemaker and chore services, medication management, therapeutic, social and recreational activities, and health-related transportation.     Independent Provider Self-Directed Home Care: The Independent Provider (IP) program is a self-directed pathway for people eligible for Medicaid long-term services and supports (LTSS) who live at home and want more control over who provides their home and community-based services (HCBS) and when, but don’t want to manage a service budget. The IP program is only available for Medicaid LTSS beneficiaries.     RIte@Home: LTSS Shared Living is a Medicaid long-term services and supports (LTSS) service delivery option for people who want services in a home-like setting but cannot live alone because they need considerable help with the activities of daily living.     PACE: The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a Medicaid long-term services and support (LTSS) option that offers comprehensive health care services and supports to older adults. PACE provides LTSS to program participants so they can remain in their own homes or other community settings, and coordinates and manages their services if they need care in a health facility like a hospital or nursing home. For more information, click on our PACE fact sheet or call PACE at (401) 490-6566 or 1-(877)-781-7223.

    Personal Choice: The Personal Choice program is a self-directed option for Medicaid long-term services and supports (LTSS) for people who want to get care while continuing to live at home. Self-directed means that the person chooses who provides their care and when. Medicaid beneficiaries who select this option manage their service budget, how much their caregivers are paid within certain limits, and decide the type of training they receive.
